What is the next important thing after the topic of an essay that is an introduction. It needs to be more powerful as it introduces a topic giving a clear essence of what a reader should expect from the coming essay paragraphs. Even if the essay is good, most of the students start their essay with a weak introduction that fall short to standards. Here, I am providing a critical commentary on a sample introduction on King Lear essays by a student.

Essay Introduction:
“Human values pertains the matters of right and wrong within our judgments. Shakespeare shows us how wicked and heartless human nature can be when making choices, which serve for them. Moral misjudgements of the cunning characters lead to a vicious circle where harmful consequences are met”

Essay Argument:
When it comes to moral choices, it can unveil the darker side of human nature, how much the moral choices in "King Lear play" are influenced by the context and values of their situation?

Comments And Suggestions:
Although, it is a good introduction for King Lear critical essays but it could be much better.  You could have emphasized on the flaws of humanity in relation to the context of Shakespeare. It could be better if something like this:

“In King Lear Shakespeare shows us how cold and wicked a human can be when confronted with two choices”.

“How much the moral choices in "King Lear" are influenced by the context and values of their situation?”

This is basically asking what the flaws that these characters possess are and what led them to fall from grace? The introduction can be more effective if you will mention the values in it while referring to the things such as chaos, love and order, power lust etc.

You should have a solid introduction for writing essay on King Lear with a sturdier conclusion, but this introduction is good as well. You can use the above suggestions to further improve it!
