Jane Eyre, a ten year old girl lives unhappily with her aunt and cousins, where they took every opportunity to abuse her to remind her of inferior station. The only salvation for Jane from daily humiliation was her servant Bessie who used to tell her stories and sing songs for her. One day Jane started fighting with her bullying cousin, John, for this reason Mrs. Reed imprisoned her in the red room where her uncle Mr. Reed died, she was so scared by the thought that she fainted. She was then sent to Lowood School fifty miles away from Gates head.
During an inspection in the school one day, her headmaster, Mr. Brocklehurst forced her to stand on a stool in front of the class while accusing her of being a liar. Miss Temple writes to Mr. Lloyd to clarify the state of Jane’s nature. After this incident Jane continued to concentrate on her studies.
After her school she accepted the position of a governess at Thorn field Manor where she taught a French girl Adele. When she met her employer Edward Rochester, she felt an immediate attraction towards him. As the months go by, Jane fell in love with Mr. Rochester. Jane went back to Gates head for few weeks to see dying Mrs. Reed, on her return at Thorns field; Mr. Rochester told her the true motives of Miss Ingram and asked her to marry him. But a month later, she found that he is already married to Bertha who is in a complete state of madness. Although, Jane was still in love with Mr. Rochester, she left Thorns Field.
The Rivers siblings, St.Jhon, Mary and Diana took her to their place at the Moor house. Jane became their close friends. One day Jane found out that she has inherited a fortune of 20,000 pounds from John Eyre.
One day, she discovers that the Thorns Field has been burned down by Bertha who died in the fire and Mr. Rochester has lost his eyesight and a hand. She located him and then they got married. In the end of the novel Jane informed the readers that she and Mr. Rochester are now married for ten years.
