How to Write a Summary Essay?

Students in college are being assigned by their teachers the task to write a summary essay.

Students have to convey their understanding about the subject to the audience without evoking them to read the source; thus, students have to present their essay topic to the audience in an effective manner. Here is the simple guideline that students should follow for writing summary essays:

Step 1

Introduction: First of all, you have to present a summarized thesis statement from source in one sentence reflecting the major theme of your essay. You should also give a title and name of the author of your source. It will be better if you provide relevant background information about the author or text in your introduction.      

Step 2

Body: In body paragraphs, you are going to utilize paraphrasing on the original piece of work. In order to summarize your essay effectively, you should note down the following points:

• You should include main points about the topic in your body and eliminate irrelevant points.
• You should utilize at least one illustration of author about the topic in order to bring life in your summary essay. At most, you should utilize three illustrations of author about the topic.
• You should not give your own opinion, illustration or interpretation about the topic. You should remember your role as a substitute to source; thus, you just have to summarize the topic.
• There is no point for giving concluding paragraph in summary essays. As soon as you are done with summarization of the topic, you should stop instantly.
