How to handle several GED Essay Topics?

GED essay is the second part of GED essay writing in which students are being given 45 minutes to present their standpoint on a given topic. Students should organize their time properly in order to complete their GED essays within an allotted time. They should divide the time for prewriting, organizing, drafting, revising and editing their essay effectively in order to successfully complete their essay within the time limit.


As students have to handle different types of GED essay topics in GED writing test based on several subjects; therefore, students need to follow a few steps in order to handle their GED essay topics. Here are the steps that students should follow:


Step 1:


Brainstorming: Whether the topic of your essay is about science or social studies, you should brainstorm for ideas in order to gather points for your essay. You should not take more than 5 minutes for brainstorming.  


Step 2:


Organizing: Once you have gathered the points for your essay, you need to organize them in sequence with the aid of an outline. Your main idea is going to be the thesis statement of your essay. You should not take more than 3 minutes in organizing your ideas.     


Step 3:    


Writing: You should remember that minimum word count for GED essay is 200 words; therefore, you don’t need to rush. You should utilize proper sentence structure and avoid grammatical mistakes in your essay however you should try to finish your GED essay writing within 20 minutes. In body paragraphs, you are going to utilize the facts; therefore, you should ensure that you have evidences to prove the facts associated with your essay topic.

Step 4


Revising & Proofreading: You should not take more than 8 minutes for revision in order to ensure that your essay is fulfilling the requirement of your essay. If you see any idea i.e. irrelevant to the topic; then you should discard it from your essay. After revision, you have to proofread your essay for spelling or grammatical mistakes. 6 minutes is an enough time for proofreading.
