How to write a character analysis essay?

There are different types of analysis essays which are being assigned to students in schools and colleges. It may either be a literary analysis essay or critical analysis essay that students may be asked to write. One of the most common types of analysis essay that students are being assigned is a character analysis essay. Students have to observe the salient features of a character to write an essay on the character.

Analysis essay on character develop several insights among students. Here are some steps that students should follow for writing character analysis essays:

Step 1:

Introduction: In the introductory paragraph, you will tell your audience about the character that you have chosen for your essay. You should define the role of that character in a novel/story/play in a few sentences. For e.g. “Hamlet, the protagonist in a tragedy by William Shakespeare holds the true commanding figure. Although, he show himself to be mentally ill at present in the play but prove his consciousness in the end after taking avenge from the Claudius who was responsible for the death of his father”.         

Step 2:

Body Paragraphs: In body paragraphs of your essay, you are going to present the details about character. Whether you choose an antagonist or protagonist, you should remember that no character can either be 100% good or evil; therefore, every character possesses good and bad features. You should provide good and bad features of a character in your first body paragraph. Second paragraph of your body should be dealing with the quest of that character.

You should mention your readers about the attitude and behavior of character by analyzing its relationship with different characters in the play, novel or story. Last paragraph of your body should be dealing with the elements of symbolism associated with that character.         

Step 3:

Conclusion: You should summarize what you have discussed throughout your analysis essay on a character in three to four sentences.

In short, you should analyze the character of a novel/story/play thoroughly for coming up with good analysis essay about that character.
